You are mistaken. People are not persecuted for wanting to have sex, since it is a nearly universal human characteristic.

I have not seen anyone persecuted for wanting to have sex. The only issues I am aware of are related to the incidental impacts to society that are a consequence of participating in promiscuous and illicit activity. A crack whore is much more likely to engage in illegal activity, spread disease, and create social conflict that the average citizen. If a crack whore has 6 children, they are far more likely to fail at school, engage in criminal activity, become a burden on society, suffer from neglect and other kinds of abuse, spread disease, and cause suffering and hardship for others, than the average citizen.

It is not a persecution, then that drives people to object to prostitution. It is the desire to encourage legal guidelines that promote a healthy and decent culture to live in.
