Who cares? When he was in Nam he volunteered for combat, went to the most dangerous war zone the Navy had and excelled beyond anyone else in the theater without ever complaining. He earned his medals and went way beyond the call of duty. He was also in Cambodia. So what do you want?

Also remember, he could have gotten out of the war like Bush if he'd wanted to. Any Yale student would have been to get a deferment somehow. As Bush himself proved. Bush even got out of the Guard a year early to go to Harvard Law School. Where incidentally his professor called him lazy and a serial liar.

Anyone yearning to get into combat is psycho. The point is that JK volunteered because he was courageous, not a coward or draft-dodger like all of the rightwing leaders. And he couldn't have faked any of it done it for political reasons because up those rivers you're lucky if you even come back alive. Those were hellish rivers, some of them, not unlike APOCALYPSE NOW. John told me in fact that movie was like a flashback for him, very similar, all except the Marlon brando part.
