JF, from the article:

Properly inflated tires on the nation's cars would save an estimated 4 million gallons of gasoline a day.

Will the Federal government now require tire pressure monitors to be installed on all new cars?

That came to my mind because my wife and I just bought a new car, and one of its most annoying features is a "seat belt nanny." Don't put on your seat belt, and 30 seconds after you drive, the "nanny" starts chiming until you buckle up. I asked the dealership to turn it off, and they said they can't. Meanwhile, during a trip to Colorado, I had two rental cars (long story), and both of them also had "seat belt nannies."

I suspect the "nanny" is now required by federal law. If that's the case, pretty soon we'll have "tire pressure nannies" as well.
