JF, It's the law in most states that you have to wear seat belts. I guess you object to the technology more than the issue?

I object to the nanny state mentality in principle, but I guess I better get used to it. I'm pretty good at putting on my seat belt, but there are times I just want to drive a short distance. For example, if after grocery shopping I go and fetch the car from the parking lot, then drive it to the loading area where I know I'll be getting right back out to load groceries, I'll still have to endure the "nanny's nagging" unless I put on that seat belt even for a few seconds.

At least with tire pressure monitors, you can point to a national need to conserve oil. Maybe even safety on the road, since I wonder how many cars out there with underinflated tires pose a risk to other cars. Seat belts? Only the occupants of that car are affected.
