How would he prevent you from buying whatever vehicle you want? Besides, if Hummers stopped being produced because they couldn't hack the new requirements, then the anarchists wouldn't have them either. Trucks dwarf any SUV anyway. Like it or not, the Democrats do offer alternatives. Democratic initiatives to raise CAFE standards in the 1970s and 1980s doubled fuel efficiency, and we still had an explosion of SUVs and light trucks afterwards, so your argument seems rather weak. It would just force Detroit to produce more efficient vehicles, something they might have to do soon anyway as gas prices might soon dictate a change in buying habits. Hybrids have taken away the old arguements put forward by conservatives that you comprimise comfort and safety for efficiency.
