I hadn't thought of that either.

Federal anti-discrimination law is IMO of questionable constitutionality, it has a lot of negative practical consequences, and reduces our liberty. OTOH it helped end one of the most ugly situations that existed in the United States in the 20th century.

Because of the evil the laws have helped overcome many people look at the ideas behind the laws as not merely as a good idea in practice, or something that worked for a particular situation, but as being fundamentally good and acceptable ideas. Objection to the idea that the government should have such a level of control over our interactions with other people is condemned not merely as mistaken or misguided but as racist.
