There are millions of dead Vietnamese who can no longer recall much of anything Which is true and significant in a number of ways but which is not relevant to the point at hand. If they could see Vietnam today -- with millions of Vietnamese going about their business and building their country and raising their families in peace -- they might say it was worth the cost in order that they might be free. Its not entirely accurate to call them free even today, and it is decades later. After the war they where far from free. The cost was ours to decide -- we decided that the price of their freedom would be very high indeed We decided that a bit more than 50,000 American lives was too high of price to pay for South Vietnam's relative freedom.
