My sister finally got a parrot so she would have a pet that could outlive her. Parrots live a long time, so she has to provide for him in her will. Parrots are very smart. I tried to teach hers how to say my name, but he refused to do it until he had to go to the vet some months later. When my sister picked him up the vet asks, "Who the heck is ManyMoose?"

She still has several cats and a big Chesapeake Bay retriever. He has outlived the vet's prediction by six months already, and she, like you, is steeling herself for another round of grief.

Bear in mind that my views on clearcutting are entirely professional. I don't like the way they look either, but I understand why they are sometimes the best way to harvest a forest stand. I became a silviculturist after I saw where clearcutting should NOT be applied, because I wanted forestry to be scientifically sound. I could tell you all the things we've done to make them look better, but none of that changes that clearcuts perform the same function as plowing under a corn field and planting a new crop.

Thank you for your kind comment.
