1. We don't know for sure what getting the heck out of Iraq would do. It doesn't mean we wouldn't support the Iraqis, train their forces out of country and give them financial aid. In fact, I'll bet that if we leave the Europeans would offer more aid.
(BTW - where the heck are the 1 million men who were supposedly in Saddam's army? They may not have been first class but they certainly knew how to shoot a blooming gun! Thanks Bremmer you putzhead for disbanding them.)
This is what we said about Vietnam. It took an entire generation and terrible circumstances but they have come out the opposite end on their own steam. In this case, we wouldn't be 'cutting and running' but gracefully sitting outside in places like Kuwait and Turkey.
Oh yeah, the IRAQIS want us to leave. Maybe the government wants us there to keep their power intact but the people want us gone.
On top of everything, where in the world does the US of A get the money to stay in Iraq? Where do we find $80+ billion/year when we're already in debt with a crumbling infrastructure and insufficient healthcare? We are going to have $8 TRILLION in national debt pretty darn soon.
2. Wrong-o. The simplistic notion of elections is that it's about the majority of voters. It's not. This is why there's the electoral college. This why there are states. This is why there's the Senate. The US of A isn't one big mass, it's divided up and systemized in order to protect minority rights.
This is why Frist's nuclear option is so heinous. The Senate, BY DEFINITION and DESIGN, is a minority body. That is why RI has as much power in the senate as CA. This simplistic notion of democracy is really disturbing.
3. Wrong. Clinton had real surpluses. Look, why don't you do at least a minute of research? You can argue the numbers but at least have a fact or two to support your posting.

4. Here's your oil well in Utah. Again, do one minute of research before you post! Two fields, 1500 barrels/day. sltrib.com The US uses 7 billion barrels per year. Utah, if it does produce anything, will provide 2 months worth.
The world uses nearly 90 million barrels a day. Utah would produce enough for 10 days worth.
I'm still sleepy so my math may be off.
Iraq: Over 100 billion barrels of easy-picking proven reserves. Iraq: Est. over 200 billion barrels of unproven reserves.
========== No matter how you slice it, even if every state in the union found 1 billion barrels of oil, it will eventually run out. It's estimated to have taken some 200,000 pounds of organic materials (I'll have to look up the article to see if my memory is good) to make one gallon of oil. At some point we will run out.
If China gets up to the level of development that Mexico has, it will use as much oil BY ITSELF as the entire world does today. |
