What I found remarkable about the mayor of Spokane is not just what he is alleged to have done, but the fact that he is anti-gay rights. He acknowledges having sexual relationships with adult men, so the gay part is not really even in question. It is the self-loathing, hypocrisy part of the story that caught my attention.

Since there have been lots of rumors about him since the 1970's, it is at least probable that there is quite a bit of truth to the story. The Boy Scout leader part just makes it worse.

Portland's mayor was a total scumbag, of course, but the story is different in that the minor he abused was a girl, and he never presented himself as a righteous, conservative, law and order guy like the mayor of Spokane did. Bill Clinton never presented himself as a righteous, conservative, law and order guy, either. The level of hypocrisy in this case is just astoundingly high.
