China, Korea to construct 14 oil tankers for Iran Tehran Times Economic Desk TEHRAN (MNA) — Iran will order China and Korea to construct 14 oil tankers valued at $1.5b with the capacities of 300,000 and 160,000 tons. This will increase Iran’s oil transport capacity by the end of the current year, director of National Iranian Oil Tanker Company (NIOTC) for planning affairs, Abdolsamad Ta’aqol said on Sunday. According to him, 10 of these tankers have 300,000 tons capacity and the rest have a capacity of 160,000 tons. Since Iran does not possess the technology required for building such tankers, it has made the construction order to China and Korea, he reasoned. The official announced that the value of these tankers is $1.5b and they will be delivered till 2008 and 2009. “Iran is an oil-rich country and the volume of its production capacity will increase to 5-7m bpd in future, therefore the country needs purchasing new oil tankers,” Ta’aqol added. He concluded that NIOTC transferred 78m tons of oil and oil products during last year. ===========
