It's a good poem. But I worry about inculcating kids with political values in school. I don't think politics and school should mix. I think it's ok to teach tolerance, and kindness, (that's part of our mission statement at our school) but activist politics is not on the menu.

If the kids ask me what I think on certain subject, I answer, but I don't feel free to incorporate my politics in to my lesson plan. I have a deep love for public schools, and I feel that everyone should be there, because I think they should be a place where we give everyone a common ground- everyone from every side of the political spectrum- so that when we become adults, at least we all came from one very similar place. I think if we are activist, we drive away some of the people who (imo) desperately need to have common ground with moderates and liberals. I ALSO don't want activists from the other side in school, so I can't bring in my politics and campaign at the same time that people of conservative views should leave the arena.

I'm sorry. I went off on kind of a rant. I wasn't really feeling ranty, so when you read this, remember it's just me talking, not me shouting.
