It was the link with PETA that bothered me. I think animal rights could be touched upon generally in school- but it would not be permissible (imo) for a teacher to build a lesson around the issue if the only side of the issue supported was his or her point of view. I worry when active special interest groups are linked to schools, because I think it's so easy to do, and there are a LOT of special interest groups I do not agree with. While I think high school students could be exposed to special interests, I think it would have to be done very carefully, with a broad buffet of different groups included; I think students would have to be allowed to help drive the selection, and I think parental approval should be secured when a teacher ventures in to any touchy area like that.

That's just my opinion though. I do tend to be very cautious because I don't like to upset people (because school is meant to expand the mind, not enrage it), and I've never had a parent complain, in elementary or high school, so I figure I'm on the right track.
