"so I still see no reason to value gold besides the fact it is just a rare element. " the fact of the matter is , no one gives a rip whether you personally choose to value gold. your own preferences are not at all the issue here, nor is your need to have others convince you of this. ignoring thousands of years of human history based on your own personal view of things in order to make investment decisons...well, if it is your own money, why not?
