I agree with your wife really, but the point is reasonable. They certainly can't perform the mental gymnastics people can. Cyberspace will start off like a termite mound - mindless seeming individuals, but a smart outcome.

Google seems to me to be like thinking. Ask something, get something back with associated idea which is where one was going anyway.

Now the euros are nervous that Google is taking over the brain of the world and if it isn't googlable, then it doesn't exist, like a tree falling over in the forest, unseen.

Which is flattering for Google, but a bit over the top really. Though that's the trend - if it's not in cyberconsciousness, it exists only in a weird wonderland like the third planet around alpha centauri, where we don't see trees falling.
