The very founding of the country and any progress that we've made as a society has been based on self-criticism.

Geez, and here I thought it was because we were tired of taxation without representation, the quartering act, the stamp act, as well as a few opportunistic, but politically savvy individuals seeing the potential of forming their own nation where only landed gentry were permitted to vote?

The PROGRESS that was made from then ON may be due, in part, to self-criticism and self-reflection with regard to making our country "better" than the Europeans, but it was also won by sheer guts and rugged individualism on the part of people who had no time for self-criticism or self-reflection because they were turning their dreams into REALITY.

Thanks goodness our forefathers didn't wallow in self-doubt and hand-wringing.. If they had, we would have been conquered a long time ago.
