Mulla Omar, Hekmatyar offered amnesty
(Updated at 1525 PST)
KABUL: Afghan government has offered amnesty to Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar and former prime minister and warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar on Monday.

"We want peace with everyone, without exception," Afghanistan's reconciliation commission chief Sibghatullah Mojaddedi told newsmen, when asked about Omar and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.

"They can put their guns down on the ground, accept the constitution of Afghanistan and obey the government," he said. He said we invite Mulla Omar and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar to play their role in rebuilding of the country.

President Hamid Karzai had earlier said in an interview that Mullah Omar and Hekmatyar would not be invited for the reconciliation process.

Mojaddedi said policies change with time and added that the reconciliation commission was working independently with full backing from President Karzai.
