** OFF TOPIC **

"Wealth, unlike energy or momentum, is not conserved. It can be created .... spontaneously."

I believe the law enforcement agencies frown upon the spontaneous creation
of wealth... <g> unless you're Alan Greenspan...but even that has inflation
implications I guess (I'm no economist).

But that aside... wouldn't you agree that any money you receive came out of
someone else's pocket? Your scenario sounds like a Ponzi scheme! You know, the "Greater Fool" syndrome...

I suppose if you treat the United States economy as a system, you could
spontaneously add "kinetic" wealth by injecting foreign capital...but isn't that
analogous to spontaneously adding potential energy to an "automobile"
system in the form of gasoline? That doesn't violate the law of conservation of
energy! Your gas came from someone else's supply!

A stock can't rise infinitely... at some point the entire global wealth would be
represented in ANCR's market cap, and there'd be no money left to buy FC
switches! <g>

Maybe for a short period of time everyone could come out ahead, but
not for long!

He was thinking that each buy or sell decision represents a guess that the stock
will appreciate or depreciate following the trade. On that basis, one decision
will always be wrong if everyone always holds for the same period of time. That's a pretty big assumption.

I guess it's reasonable to treat the stock market as a system into which wealth
can be spontaneously added...but at some point it's going to be spontaneously
removed as well!

Sorry to babble like this, but your debunking of the zero-sum game got the
wheels turning...maybe you could say "Stock market capitalization is not
conserved". Meanwhile, back to your regularly scheduled ANCR thread...
