Not only are there problems with Tiger there are also problems with the latest update for Panther 10.3.9.

A buddy of mine, whom I convinced to get a G3 iBook a couple of years ago, recently downloaded the latest updates for his 10.3.9. Now he can't log in to his account which is encrypted with File Vault. What he gets after typing his username and password is a perpetual login screen that shows a "Logging in" message with a progress bar. He never makes it to the desktop and the only way to get out of this loop is to force a shutdown. He can, however, log in to an account that is not encrypted. So he calls me for advice and, well, I'm stumped! What he can't understand is that he's been faithfully doing his updates since he started using Panther and there's been no problem logging in with File Vault switched on. Until now, that is.

I thought updates for Mac were supposed to be foolproof. Guess not.
