It seems $20,000-$150,000 regular reenlistment dollars are not enough. We are now adding 5,000 sweet $$$ for reenlistments.

How much money does it take to buy an army in America?

This is the 6th enlistment or reenlistment bonus announcement since March 30. Folks, that is one a week. Surprisingly, it comes now while reenlistments are running at 100+% of goal and when we should be entering a few months of increased recruiting.

Is the recruit pipeline so dry they desperately need reenlistees to maintain an Army? The summer months are traditionally strong recruiting months. They are also the months when the most folks take discharges. Somebody sees a greater problem looming and is trying to buy us out of it.

On top of the 6 recent money announcements, on April 28th, the Army announced a three year (vs the previous 6 year) enlistment option for reservists. On May 6th, they offered a 15 month (vs the previous 36 month) active duty enlistment.
And - I thought this was huge - In addition to other bonuses, on April 25th, they offered a special $20,000 bonus to recruits who report for duty this month (May).

Somebody is running scared imo. It should probably be us. Our total DOD active duty military strength was just reported down for the 8th consecutive month.
Including all services, we are 46,167 men below strength.

Here is the latest attempt to use money. This info in Army Times this morning.

Army adds $5,000 to SRBs

The Army has added a $5,000 deal sweetener to the Selective Re-enlistment Bonus program for active component soldiers whose enlistments expire before Oct. 1.
