eagle,
I agree with your assesment completely. Coms is in such choppy waters due to the anticipation of an earnings shortfall. Long term the prospects are huge, but short term, namely in the next month or so, it will be dicey. Digesting the acquistion of US Robotics will cause Coms to burp once or twice, but then watch out. I don't give much credence to the naysayers for the following reason: Why would the management of US Robotics agree to subordinate roll in 3COM if they didn't believe their future was much brighter teamed with 3COM? These people, the management of US Robotics, are movers and shakers in the industry, not outsiders, i.e. stock analysts or investors like ourselves. This fact speaks louder to me than any stock jockey's 2cents. My strategy to deal with 3COM's stock price; have two accounts. One which is a long term account, with a timeline in years, like a pension account. And another which is short term, a trading account, so to speak.
