What do you think IS the answer, uw? If we have the draft again, chances are we will be getting people like the guy that just murdered his child and her friend...or people that are into serious nonlegal drugs...or malcontents,

A draft will get us a cross section of America, including the best, the better, the good and the bad. Our Armed Forces do a better job of identifying criminal elements in the ranks and deal with them swifter than any city police force.

This week's 100-0 senate vote indicates our Congressmen and women may finally realize they better get 100% behind our current Army because right now it is the only one we have.

Using our Armed Forces as a political football to be kicked around for a coupla years is costing us big time. Not so much with the folks currently serving, as with American civilians. Congress never accepts responsibility for military problems. They just make charges and conduct investigations until they find scapegoats.

We have recruiting problems and an officer candidate shortage because many politicians have been badmouthing the military (never offering a solution), many universities do not allow recruiting or ROTC on campus, many high schools do not cooperate with recruiting efforts, and many parents read MSM and say...not my kid.

We have all heard the phrase Freedom is not free. We are now struggling to find out just how much it costs. We still don't know, so keep the cash register open.

In the meantime, for a historical perspective of where we seem to be headed, I recommend reading "The Rise And Fall Of The Roman Empire."
