You don't have to dump toxic waste down a sewer to know that you don't want other people doing it. And you don't have to run a factory farm, pumping animals full of antibiotics and food the animals would never normally eat, and treating the animals inhumanely, to know you think it's wrong, and you don't want to eat that food, or support that kind of farming. "Experience" of things that are really bad isn't always necessary. You don't have to be raped or be a rapist to be against rape, for example. Some things are bad enough that you don't have to do them, or hang around people who do them, in order to be against them.
