It seems to me that we are both unable to win or lose this war. Once again i suggest that the Iraqis should face the prospect of a US timetable for withdrawl forcing them to face reality and do all the things necessary to secure their country. Even though iraq exists as a smaller scale and inexact copy of vietnam, the key lesson of vietnam still applies. No 10 year war without results will be tolerated by the american people. Either we dont have the strong backbone we once had or the critics are right about our inability to win the war. I remember when i turned on vietnam back in the late 60s. My epiphany was that the war would rage forever. Iraq is beginning to look like this. Having said all the above i still would take into account what vietnam hawks are still saying about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I would give the Iraqi regime all the support we can. I just would remove americans from combat over a one year span and try along with our allies or at least the allies with guts to help make iraq a success. Mike
