Over the past week we have discussed the possible merger of ET and AMTD.

Just picked up on this--------

NEW YORK -- Ameritrade Holding Corp. said Thursday it's not for sale, effectively rebuffing a reported buyout offer from rival E-Trade Financial.

"The board believes there will likely be further consolidation in the industry, but confirmed Ameritrade is not for sale," said Joe Rickets, founder and chairman of the Omaha-based company (AMTD: news, chart, profile) , in a statement. "We are confident in our management team and its strategy."

An analyst then downgraded AMTD with a target of $9.00 about.

This is how the rumor mill works.
