All -

I just found a solution for my Tiger/Windows connection problem. As you may recall, I was unable to connect to shared folders on my Windows XP Pro machine after upgrading to Tiger.

After looking through several online forums and finding solutions that didn't work for me, I finally looked at the Event Viewer on the Windows box. Sure enough, each time I tried to connect from the Mac, Windows was logging an error saying "The seerver's configuration parameter "irpstacksize" is too small for the server to use a local device. Please increase the value of this parameter."

To fix this, I had to edit the registry. The relevant registry key is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\IrpStackSize

I had to increase the value from B (or hexadecimal 11) to F (or hexadecimal 15). After rebooting the Windows machine, I was able to connect as before.

Oddly, Microsoft claims that the default value for this parameter is F or 15. Since I had never heard of this parameter before, I don't think I was the one who changed it.

But in any case, that's one more problem solved.

Doren, the reason some of us upgrade to new OS versions as soon as they come out is so that we can find all the bugs and problems, so that you may upgrade later after they've been fixed. It's all for you, Doren.

It's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.
