Let's dispose of your first mistake first. NOBODY was invaded on 9/12/2001.

In the weeks prior to the military action in Afghanistan, US President George W. Bush delivered an ultimatum (http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/09/20/gen.bush.transcript/) to the Taliban, to deliver Al-Qaida leaders, including Osama bin Laden, located in Afghanistan to the United States. The Taliban refused. The UN Security Council also issued a resolution on September 18, 2001 directed towards the Taliban demanding that they hand over the terrorist Osama bin Laden and close all terrorist training camps immediately and unconditionally. The Taliban refused. At approximately 16:30 UTC on Sunday October 7, 2001, US and British forces began an aerial bombing campaign targeting Taliban forces and Al-Qaida. The war had started.

The US attacked Afghanistan because that was where the hijackers had been trained and where OBL and al Qaida was based.

The Saudi gov't had no proven involvement in the attack. Its extreme fundamentalist brand of Islam undoubtedly contributed to so many Saudis being among the hijackers.
