There's a push for cities to install free or low monthly rate WiFi/WiMAX networks so that everyone can have high speed access. I also note that the telcos are beginning a strong fights against municipal networks at the local government level. Some free networks are already in place.

It'll be interesting to see who wins out.

One somewhat credible argument for free high speed Internet access is that it will be necessary for keeping our entire population up to a competitive level with those countries that do have free access.
