Woman speaks, more than two years after accident

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. There's another case of a person suddenly speaking again, after being silenced for a long time by a brain injury.

For more than two years, Tracy Gaskill couldn't talk or feed herself, after suffering head trauma in a traffic accident.

But now, the 30-year-old Kansas woman has spoken again. Family members and medical personnel say she began talking and swallowing about three weeks ago.
A doctor says he's never seen it happen before.

Her family credits the care she's received, and their daily visits and prayers.

Another Kansas woman -- Sarah Scantlin -- spoke her first words earlier this year since she was left bedridden and silent in an accident involving a drunken driver more than 20 years ago.

And last month, a brain-injured firefighter in upstate New York started talking after nearly a decade of silence.
