No shit. Tax receipts. If you read my post, I said we ran a surplus due to tax receipts. HOWEVER, the good news in that wasn't the expected surplus. It was that the surplus was much higher than anticipated, meaning that companies earned more money than anticipated, which increased taxes and collections more than anticipated. That is yet one more statistic that points to a strong recovery.

I don't doubt that we'll probably be back in the red in May. The key with these statistics though is not to look at just one month, but to look at trends. Let's see if the April upside surprise was isolated or not. If we see that the deficits start to narrow going forward, then we can start pointing to positive trends. April was a good start. Let's see where it leads.
