Right now, we have denied the terrorists political cover in all places except Iran and Syria, but we are closing in on those two. I understand how you feel. But fighting terrorists is a messy business and it takes guts and persistence to finish the job. It's just like with cancer. If you get so tired of the chemo and decide to quit, then you are signing your own death warrant. But if you stick to it, then you have a chance at full recovery. Bush is sticking to the full dose of chemo and I'm all for that.

I couldn't disagree more. And I have a sinking feeling that the argument you present is not unlike the one that was presented back during the Vietnam war. The insurgency is there because the US is there. They see themselves as fighting for their country. And its becoming increasingly clear to me that the non insurgent Iraqis don't have the stomach to fight back.

Think about it........less than 5% of the population is controlling the remaining 95% in Iraq. In places like Serbia, it was the exact opposite........the majority was brutalizing the Muslim minority....that's understandable. The situation in Iraq is not.

I suspect another part of the problem is that the Iraqis only have glimmer as to what democracy means. I think it might be somewhat appealing but not on an empty stomach. And I don't think they are at all prepared to deal with its complexities.

Iraq was a mistake from the get go. IMO its time to accept that unpleasant fact and move on.
