Sam,
I think ScanSoft has done a decent job assimilating their acquisitions.
Speechworks in 2003 caused some indigestion for a while, primarily because of it's size, and apparently there were some problems with Speechwork's CEO, Stu Patterson, who left abruptly.
The 3 acquisitions in 2004, Rhetorical Systems, Advanced Recognition Tech. and Phonetic Systems appear to have gone well.
As far as building shareholder value, the jury is still out.
Warburg Pincus seems to like it's investment. They initially purchased 11,853,602 shares from Xerox in April 2004 for approx. $4.80 a share. In Nov. they bought 300,000 shares at $3.49 and in Dec. 100,000 shares at $3.75. William Janeway, vice chairman of Warburg is now on the Board of Directors.
Yeah, I feel pretty good about my investment in ScanSoft. |
