George, Looks to me like they are also looking for evidence that someone has inside information,
"The new device will search for market-sensitive information that has not been officially announced. Nasdaq representatives could not be reached for comment."
As far a someone affecting the price of an issue by giving false data in a chat room, yes I think that it can have an effect on many of the bulletin board stocks that are discussed right here in SI. I went through quite an ordeal on the ISSM thread some time back. The PR firm was passing information to SI posters who, in turn, would pass in on to SI. The SI posters would say that the PR firm said that they got the info from management. But, when it came down to it, in the end, all that management had to do was say that he didn't pass that piece of info on to the PR firm and that they(the PR firm) made it all up. In this way nobody could prove anything about anyone else(unless, of course, it was recorded. But then would it be held as legally obtained evidence?). So, IMO, there has been a lot of abuse by the micro-caps' management on these boards and it's high time the SEC take some of these crooks and make them do time for their crooked, scheming ways.
All in IMHO,
