I knew a guy who was on lithium for 20 years and almost died from lithium poisoning. A week in a coma and two more weeks in the hospital.

Odd thing a month later he stopped in the coffee shop and was joking about having to take the lithium to keep from blowing his brains out and now he was off it he felt so much happier. The next day he blew his brains out.
