The people elected the government to govern and the government knows what is best for its people.

There's where we have a very major disagreement. I believe that the elected government is supposed to execute the will of the people consistent with the law and not play a father knows best role. We spend more effort in assessing the positions of a candidate to decide our vote. We elect candidates specifically based what they promise they will do for us. And when we speak about accountability of politicians the context is always whether or not they execute the will of the people.
