Iraq is a total mess, buddy. Quit reading the Bushie Spin and start reading realistic accounts and descriptions. Sure there are many brave people trying to do good things. That was true in Vietnam too. But both wars are based on lies and mistakes.

The consensus amongst Senators is, according to Hagel and Levin, if we can't solve the Iraq mess by January, we're outta there. And may the chips fall where they may. America is paying too high a price and making way too little progress. Our military is so exhausted we couldn't respond to another major threat if we wanted to. That is unacceptable.
What if China attacked California? We would have almost no troops to respond. etc. etc.

The elections alone didn't change anything. In fact violence has grown considerably since the elections. Terrorist strikes have doubled since then.

Average 70 per day now. Did you hear that. 70 per day.
Now multiply 70 times 365 and tell me what you get.
And you say things are going better than expected? That is a F'ing disaster.
