Well okay, apparently you have no interest in the view of the predictive nature of the long term trend. I happen to disagree and believe it is quite predictive for the long term future. So it is more than just for conversational effect from my view.

The interesting thing about your "China alone" comments is that it implies a bypass of traditional investment flows. This to me is good news. Having traveled somewhat, I can understand why other countries such as China might see investing in US based mortgage-backed securities as a solid investment choice. There are a lot of countries out there with lousy looking real estate markets by contrast. At least here in the US a person can reasonably count on things we have come to expect mundanely like street lights and signals that work and are generally obeyed, sidewalks of some standards (Miami suburbs the exception), toilets that actually flush, building codes, general plans, etc. The fact that a country like China chooses the direct investment path seems good to me. I think it was Hamilton that warned vehemently against a central bank (Greenspan and the Fed). If the US is ground zero for capitalism in practice, let the investing flow freely, lets see what the market really will bear and perhaps it will eventually lead to a trickle down effect to other countries thus helping to improve those countries general well-being.
