Internap Launches Voice over Internet Protocol Professional Services.
VoIP Assessment and Optimization Services Include Network Analysis and Remediation
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 16, 2005--Internap Network Services Corporation (AMEX:IIP - News), the leading provider of performance-based routing solutions over the Internet, announces today it has extended its Professional Services portfolio to include Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Assessment and Optimization services.
The new offerings include an analysis of existing IP network performance, which can be augmented by remediation services to optimize the client's Internet connectivity for the effective delivery of VoIP.
Citing results from recent Internap testing of over 1.5 million simulated VoIP calls, Greg Peters, chief executive officer of Internap, said, "On average, 40 percent of voice calls over the Internet are below acceptable quality.
However, most IT professionals responsible for managing the network lack visibility, and therefore can't measure and manage performance."
He added, "Enterprises have been running VoIP over their private networks for years. Today, Internap is accelerating the migration to Voice over the Internet via a combination of proven solutions and the advanced technical expertise required to remedy VoIP optimization problems."
"As enterprises become increasingly dependent upon VoIP, network optimization to guarantee call quality is crucial.
However, many companies lack the tools and skills to manage their networks to appropriate performance levels," said Joe Skorupa, principal analyst, Gartner, Inc.
"In many cases these companies are best served by outsourcing these tasks to a professional services organization that has proven its ability to deliver mission critical applications across the public Internet."
The two VoIP service additions will benefit Internap clients by preventing costly capital expenditures, improving capacity planning and the ability to intelligently negotiate key service level agreements (SLAs) with their service providers.
The announcement comes on the heels of the company's addition of VoIP route optimization and reporting functionality to its award-winning Flow Control Platform(TM) (FCP) product line.
The FCP VoIP Control Module (VCM) optimizes routing of VoIP traffic to enable enhanced call quality, while the VCM allows for user-defined quality metrics such as mean opinion score (MOS) and jitter to route VoIP traffic across an organization's Internet links.
Proven Processes and Measurable Results
In addition to using the Internap® award-winning FCP/FVP products, Solutions Architects will employ third-party baseline tools, such as Ixia Chariot®, to emulate complex VoIP traffic and calculate call quality metrics to assess pre-deployment VoIP readiness.
Using this combination of patented and industry recognized tools, the Internap technical experts will identify critical path issues and design a solution to improve overall network performance.
Pre- and post-network performance analysis will aid the client in understanding the measurable improvement provided by this offering.
