I just was party to a teacher's salary negotiation (first round). Faced with the reality of budget shortfalls, the teachers came out and demanded an 8% increase on top of a 15% benefit increase. It is for the students. They used a possibility of the reduction of para-educators as an excuse for giving them more money. I asked if they would be willing to give back the portion of increases attributable to extra work if the paras were available in future years. Want to bet what their response was? NO WAY! It is for the children. People with obvious selfish motives trying to pretend something else is their motivation just make me sick.
