40-50k for a family of four sucks.

Maybe in NY, LA, DC, San Francisco, or other expensive area. In a lot of the country its not so bad. Even in DC $50k is about average. Plenty of people can support a family of four on $50k, and they are not mired in poverty. Maybe they can't buy cars for the kids when they become teenagers, at least not new ones. Maybe they can't eat out 5 times a week, but they don't have a lower class life style. I don't think there is a single country in the world were the average wage is above that 40 to 50k range.

Sorry Tim, but you are incorrect on this one. There are only four states with a median income for a family of four that is slightly less than $50k. The vast majority of the states have medians well over $50k. In fact, the average median for the US is $65k.

And these numbers are just for the states.....the cities' are even higher as is the cost of living. The American middle class is hurting under Bush's economic plan or lack thereof. Its the rich who are prospering under Bush.......and the employment numbers support that thesis.
