<Many a young American has died protecting what the flag represents.>

Haqi, there are altogether too many laws, busy-bodying over every absurd little detail of our lives.

The only laws necessary are those protecting other people and their property and risk to those.

The idea that ideas and beliefs and expression should be legislated, circumscribed and punished is exactly what freedom is against.

In NZ we have little authoritarians wanting to make it illegal to desecrate the flag, not to mention making everything else illegal unless specifically approved with a government permit, licence, fee, resource management act investigations and general government bureaucracy suffocation.

There's something very ugly and intrinsic to many people = an atavistic urge to dominate other people, take their things and boss them around. You obviously have that feeling too. If they own a flag or copy of a Bible, Koran, Enid Blyton, The Satanic Verses, or Brief History of Time and decide to show what they think of the ideas promoted by said entity, then them destroying the thing as a demonstration of their opinion is not harming anyone or their property.

Burning it could be said to be polluting the air, or dangerous in some places, but in that case, burning of things should be illegal, not what is burned.

What is it with you people? Why the need to boss other people around? If they don't like the symbols you do like, or have different ideas and want to express that in whatever way they like which doesn't hurt other people or their property, then why the need to show them who is boss and stop them expressing themselves? Welcome to Big Brother, 1984, USSR, Mao's China.
