<We are starting to understand many things about President Fox, after his inopportune and badly interpreted statements about Mexicans doing the work that "blacks would not even do.">
That's a scurrilous lie! He didn't say that. He said "even blacks would not do the work" or words to that effect. He didn't have a free-floating even, or even a free-floating only.
Okay, he should have used the more respectful "Negro" rather than "black" with a lower case b, which is a less precise word, but English is his second language, so getting it right is difficult, and idiomatic expression easily slips in, which even some melanin-deficient are guilty of. Some even get prepositions at the end of sentences, not only onlies and evens in the wrong place.
Anyway, he's right. Even Negroes won't do the work. That's why the illegal immigrant Mexicans get the jobs and the Negroes don't. They are too busy with other things that they prefer doing, presumably higher paying, or at least more rewarding.
Fox is right to say "even" in regard to Negroes because Negroes are treated as a group by the USA government and by themselves in many cases and they are considered to require affirmative action and other preferences based simply on their genetic background which is supposedly defective in some way. If they need special help because of some deficiency that they should have an "even".
It's obviously not a universal problem in their DNA because I've heard of Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, Thomas Sowell, Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan and Harry Belafonte and they don't seem to have an "even" problem, though even they won't take on the work the Mexicans are doing.
Marcos the mexican sier says that mexicans shouldn't have an upper-case. But I generally, and no doubt incorrectly, put upper cases all over the place. One never knows when Islamic Jihad will introduce the death penalty for not using capital letters when describing flushing of Korans. Even Mexicans can have an upper-case in my book.
To avoid offence, maybe ... hey, Irwin Mark Jacobs on CNN right now... talking about China.
