"we retracted but we still are not sure what the truth is"

How can anyone be sure what the truth is? At least anyone who doesn't see just what he believes.

The report is not yet published so we don't know what it has to say about Koran-clogged toilets. Or what it would have said about them had this story not broken this way. Or whether the investigators found any evidence of same. Or whether it occurred but the investigators were unable to demonstrate it. We may never know.

Asserting at this point that no such incident occurred is just as much of a lie as asserting that it did. Two lies don't make a truth. If you expect Newsweek to assert the former, then you are encouraging a lie.

I just think the bias is a heck of a lot more widespread than many people believe.

And cognitive soundness is much less widespread than many people believe.
