Prosecutors in Milwaukee yesterday charged five paid employees of the Kerry presidential campaign with slashing the tires on 25 vans rented by Republicans to drive voters and monitors to the polls on Election Day. Among the suspected felons, er, "activists," as the Associated Press refers to them, was the son of Wisconsin congresswoman Gwen Moore, a Democrat.

Wisconsin Democratic Party spokesman Seth Boffeli acknowledged that the accused men were paid employees of the Kerry campaign, but said they were not acting on the campaign's behalf. Does that mean the tire-slashers worked for Mr. Kerry before working against him?
