That's a scurrilous lie! He didn't say that. He said "even blacks would not do the work" or words to that effect. He didn't have a free-floating even, or even a free-floating only.

I don't know exactly what Fox said, I simply translated, very quickly, what was in the column I read. I expect it is an accurate quote.

Because of time pressures, I didn't polish the translation as I should have, and I'm not particulary proud of many aspects of it. Nonetheless, I still think the part to which you refer is correct. I threw in the "even" because the word "ni" is a bit stronger than a simple "not." It implies an emphasis in tone which "even" properly reflects.

There are many other less emphatic ways for Fox to have articulated his thoughts. "Even" captured the emphatic tone of what he is reported to have said quite well. It is this emphasis which makes the remark even more offensive.

How can you trust a guy--marcos--who though brilliant doesn't know enough about use of capitals to even capitalize the first letter of his own name?
