DMA,
I will try to stir the pot a bit today. If Frist goes nuclear there will be a day when republicans will be on the wrong side. That is inevitable in our system or at least historically so. The Senate was never supposed to be the House. It is designed not to be a representative body with 2 senators/state regardless of population. The pure majority rule politics of the House does not apply and an absolute majority is not the holy grail here. There have always been filibusters. It is not illegal to remove them but it also is not in the spirit of the senate to do so.
As i see it, you conservative true believers who populate bills thread are going to be in for the surprise of your life when the dems pick up seats in the 06 elections. Perhaps they will even get control of one of the chambers. This again is historically typical. Folks can express their opposition with the majority party in a less critical way that removing the president.
When 08 comes around, it is possible for the dems to go centrist and the republicans to stay pretty hard right. If i were a true believer conservative, i would stop salivating about facing Hillary. She is one smart women and is very popular here in this region, less for her liberalism and more for her inteligence. (I know there is a probe underway but for the time being i will assume she is not involved)
Beware what you wish for. All the republcans look pretty grey to me and they are geared for a dean/kerry/gore/edwards match which they should win. But Hillary and/or perhaps another candidate yet unknown running as a moderate clintonian dem without the penile problem, could make your gang very unhappy. The war is very unpopular and if it is still going on, a moderate and one who is viewed as tough on national defense but flexible on iraq would be a good bet.
My advice is give money to Howie Dean, stop trashing Johnny Kerry, tell Algore how good he looks whether he has the beard or not so your "grey" republican can win. Mike
