Eli - Re: Early announcement of NT box. The early announcement is yet another departure for the old SGI. In the past, they usually made the announcement when they were ready to ship. It seems they are becoming more aggressive with the hype battles which IMO is a good thing. They just announced the deal with Netscape to start shipping hot Origin 2000s for the web next year and now the NT announcement. If memory serves me right, the reason why they went to the "don't announce until you ship" strategy is that they lost credibility because of slipping deadlines. Sounds like there is new-found confidence in Bo Ewald!

Reading the article that was posted, you can see the media's interpretation of analyst's perception of SGI changing. They actually seem a bit bullish! :-) The fact that Intel commented means that credibility is being restored.

But you will really know when these folks will have forgotten SGI's missteps when CNNfn starts to track SGI prominently along with the other hardware manufacturers. They list all the hardware guys including Tandem, but rarely SGI even thought SGI is the #3 Unix box maker! I think they would all wish SGI would just go away. Their credibility is about to be damaged once again by SGI as they thought they could pan it into oblivion. I wonder where Howard Gold is these days...

Regards
Jeff
