I was thinking more along the lines of wacking Sharon for his temple mount trek 4 years ago
What about the Temple Mount trek? Now, on what planet does a pol saying, Look, this site, sacred to both Muslim and Jews, is part of Israel and I'm going to make a speech here = incitement to kill all the Jews? Sharon went up to the Temple Mount and gave a speech there. That was it. He didn't go into the mosques, he didn't desacrate any Muslim holy sites. The site is sacred to Jews too, why shouldn't an Israeli be allowed to go there! Arafat btw, had assured Barak there would be no trouble if Sharon gave his speech. Then after the speech, Arafat ran days of tapes of the first intifada on PA TV, and called for "Days of Rage", also on PA TV. Meantime, I get to hear the NY Times tell me how the riots just occurred "spontaneously".
If you think the two things are equivalent, then yes, I think you are missiing something.
I don't know how "cheap" Arab talk is. Ten years of PA education and propaganda, full of anti-Semitic incitement, has certainly had its effect on the conflict. |
