IMO, you completely missed the point then. He went there to symbolically say "This is Jewish ground, and always will be, at least if I have anything to say about it". And that message resonated very well with many Jews to Sharon's benefit in the election.

Which oddly enough is what the rabid cleric was effectively saying from the Arab perspective. "This land is ours, and we will get it back".

If you, for one minute, think that 6 million Jews in modern Israel are in ANY danger of annihilation, you are not thinking rationally at all. And please don't wail about Europe in the 1930's & '40s. It's a different world. We are making progress, the point being to make some more, which is why I suggest the USA wack both Arab & Jew as needed for stupid actions.
