I am not a dentist, I just reported what my dentist said when I asked him about PLSIA. He said that it did not make economic sense for HIM to spend a lot of money for a laser machine when he can treat the patients' whitening problems with a bleaching kit which produces income for him without taking up chair time. I did not ask him how he came up with his $1000 per treatment price, but he implied that he had to charge a premium to protect his risk on the downside.

Also patients tend to be more scared of a laser shooting into their mouth vs putting in a bleach kit mouthpiece in their mouth at night.
I like laser technology for eye treatment, because the lower cost alternatives (Contacts and glasses) don't offer the same level of convenience, so it is worth paying a premium.
